No Use For a Name - Strangers in The Outback tour

No Use For A Name

AMERICAN punk rock band No Use For A Name is making their way to WA stages alongside Strung Out for their Strangers in The Outback tour.

No Use For a Name seems to be a band that everyone has heard of, and with good reason now with their ninth album under their belt and 13 years as a band behind them.

One of the beginning bands of the punk rock revolution, No Use For a Name initially drew their influences from other punk rock bands of the time including NOFX and Bad Religion.

Getting involved in that scene saw them produce a bunch of punchy albums which were great for entertainment value but now with their new album The Feel Good Album of the Year, lead singer Tony Sly said they were finally completely happy with what they had produced.

"In a way it summarises a bit of our old sound, our middle sound and a new experimental sound," Sly said describing the feel of the new album.

"We play some different rhythms and do things we wouldn't normally do, in a style we wouldn't normally do.

"We found something after such a long time that we all like."

Fans who caught their previous release Keep Them Confused would have noticed a drop in the amount of gusto they usually present an album with which Sly puts down to their dislike or disappointment of the album.

"Keep Them Confused always reminded me of the album before," Sly explained.

"With our previous record it felt like we were dragging our feet just so we could go on tour.

"At that point it felt like we were only doing a job.

"We had a really good attitude going into the recording studio for this one."

The album pumps out a very honest vibe and is so clear cut that each instrument complements rather than dominates each other, as any music fan would understand with the amount of mish mash music produced these days.

"We tried a different producer with this one, Bill Stevenson and he changed things a lot for us," Sly said.

"He was all about performing perfectly first.

"You find a lot of producers fix it in the mix but this was completely opposite.

"This album's about going other way and not trying to sound reproduced.

"There are lots of mistakes but we left them in so it sounds natural."

Fresh from their US tour with NOFX, No Use For a Name are heading to Australia soon to tour their latest album alongside international act Strung Out.
