Blues and roots songstress Toby Beard is leaving her listeners with a warm heart with the honest and compelling tracks on her new album Love Underground.
Beard's raw vocals only act to intensify the in-depth storytelling present in her lyrics as she sings about the lives of people she has met and her own troubled relationships.
"It is a love related album and there are all sorts of points of views and stories behind them," Beard explained.
"There's kind of a secret little world for each one.
"There are maybe 17 songs and they're all about human relationships and human politics...I write a lot from experience.
A standout track on the album is Missing Youth which Beard described as being one of the most epic songs on the album.
"Its one of those songs everyone can relate to.
"Like when you're missing someone so much and you've just gotta put it behind you."
Beards lyrics have been said to steer clear of such clichéd analogies as you would find in more commercial tracks and create a colourful and vivid picture of the young singer's life and experiences.
A track that is quite close to Beard is the song Catch You which Beard said was very meaningful to her as it told the story of her sister and her battle with illness.
"My sister hasn't been well for 10 years now and it just talks about how emotionally positive she's been and how strong and brave she is.
"She's my inspiration."
Love Underground is Toby's fifth release following from the great response to her previous album Renaissance which Beard described as being a bit more commercial to her latest release.
The new album has a fresh feel to it and stays true to the raw emotional music that Beard is renowned for.
While her style usually sways more toward a bluesy rootsy feel, there is a bit of reggae and jazz thrown into the mix as well as a bit of a rock edge.
Love Underground is available from her website and her upcoming gigs.
