The Meaning Of - The Alligator Festival

The Meaning Of
The Meaning Of will bring their powerful stage show to the Players Bar stage next Thursday

AN INTENSE act from the get go, The Meaning Of will thrash the stages across WA for the next few weeks.

Having been together a whopping twelve years through a revolving door of lineups, brothers Mike and Pete Sukys have been writing and performing together the longest with Raz Hansen and Lee Afentopoulos joining the band seven years ago.

The Meaning Of has been a complete act for two and a half years now, after the installation of bassist Tim Collins, and needs to be jammed into the pidgeon hole of alternative hard rock for people to get an idea of what these guys put out their audiences.

"Our music offers lots of different elements with percussion and didgeridoo especially," guitarist Pete Sukys explained.
"But funk, hip hop and a bit of theatrics make their way in as well."

Their latest release, a 15-track album going by the name of The Alligator Festival is an amazing piece of work which has been refined for the past three-and-a-half years.

Recorded in Perth with underground music guru Adam Spark this explosive album pumps out a lot of heavy grooves, percussion, funk, didgeridoo, energy and a bit of well-placed humour.

A standout track on the album, and personal favourite of Sukys is title track The Alligator Festival which has been stewing in the minds of The Meaning Of for the best part of two years, gradually being refined and reworked to present the best side of their music.

"The only thing that we would change is that the album would have been released sooner," Sukys said.

"The songs were all written nearly two years before the release but for financial reasons we couldn't release it any sooner otherwise it wouldn't have been the product that we had wanted."

The wait has been well worth it as this slow burn of a band has suddenly burst onto the music scene with fans and record companies alike looking up and paying attention.

However despite the newfound attention, The Meaning Of isn't looking to be signed any time soon.
"We will stay independent," Sukys said.

"We have always been very self-sufficient as a band and remaining independent gives us a lot of freedom to do the things that we want.

"We have got distribution deals in place so you can buy our releases from anywhere in the world which does make it a little easier."

Dominating the stages across West Australia, The Meaning Of will blow their audiences socks off with the fast-paced, energy-filled show they have become renowned for.

"The live show is most definitely the best medium to see The Meaning Of," Sukys said.

"We are a very lively act with lots of movement, dancing, fire, flipping, and energy.

"We really feel the audience is a huge part of the show and creating a huge energy between them and us is extremely important."

In other news The Meaning Of are in the process of nutting out their first east coast shows which will are pegged for late October/November this year.

The new filmclip for 'For You' is well underway and will be released in the next few months.

And finally, the track 'One Person' has held its spot in the Alternative Polish Radio Top 20 for eight weeks now in the company of great acts like Dillinger Escape Plan, Serj Tankian and Porcupine Tree.

The Alligator Festival is available now through MGM.
